Ana Juan
I became aware of Ana Juan’s 2019 project EVERYTHING AND PART | TODO Y PARTE when I saw in it an alternative possibility closely related to my own experiments in Unit 1. As she explains:
“The title of this project is an analogy: individuality as part of an unattainable whole. ‘TODO Y PARTE’, ‘Everything and Part’ is a visual fable that tells of humour and death, cruelty and love, and reminds us of the fragility of this adventure that is life.”
Whereas in my work I have been constantly reorganizing the shapes of the seven-piece tangram to keep the series alive, Ana Juan chooses instead to continually replenish the missing elements of her composition while preserving its integrity. It is a living project that does not find its end when the exhibition closes its doors. In this way, the pieces sold from the branches of her tree are replaced by new, distinct shapes, allowing the Tree of Life to keep growing and the chain of life to follow its never-ending course.
