I’ve been continually experimenting with different materials to create gray-toned surfaces. This time, I directly adhered xuan paper onto the cardboard. In practice, it still wasn’t very successful—the paper absorbed too much ink, and the print came out almost entirely black, rather than the textured gray I had envisioned. But the cardboard looked beautiful before it became saturated with ink.
Perhaps I should look for smoother materials that can better achieve the effect I have in mind—something that can be partially wiped clean even after absorbing a substantial amount of ink.
